What is Digitizing?
Digitizing is the process of converting a design into a stitch format that will run on the embroidery machine. This is necessary before the design can be embroidered. Pricing is based on the stitch count and number of colors in your design.

Is there an art charge?
Not at all! We love to be creative and we do not charge for our time spent providing our customers with top quality design work. It’s our way of saying, “Thanks for your business.” Typically, we include 1 hour design time, free of charge.

What is Contract Printing?
Contract printing or embroidery means that you supply Spiritware with the artwork that is to be printed or embroidered. Working together we can develop the most appropriate design for your group or organization.

How do I submit my artwork?
We pride ourselves in being able to accept art in most any form. Anything from an idea to a completed fully color separated graphic file. Ideal formats are Adobe Illustrator (.eps, with text outlined) for typical graphic images and Adobe Photoshop (.psd, with a resolution of 300ppi at approximately actual size being printed on the shirts) for photographic or gradient images. Please contact us by email or call 616-322-8829 with any questions regarding this critical step. Our in-house artists can work with your own design or create one for you from scratch.

Many of our customers enjoy providing us with custom finished designs. We are often impressed with the quality work we receive. But, while many programs are fun and easy to use, their files can be difficult to translate into production ready films. Artwork can be 4 color process (CMYK) or up to 6 spot colors.

We offer these suggestions for submitting your design:
The best method for us to receive artwork is from a digital file. It can be sent by email or burned onto a CD.

Spiritware Customer Art Guidelines:

If you wish to send artwork (CD or email), please send it in one of the following programs and include a hard copy, color if possible, info on colors, & preferred imprint size. Spiritware is equipped with Macintosh computers. The following applications are suitable:

Adobe Illustrator Vector Art - CS3 or earlier
- Convert fonts to outlines
- Name spot colors as PMS colors
- All halftones should range from 15-70%
- Save as .AI or .EPS
- Please include all linked files, including all .TIF and .EPS images. Make sure that all images placed in your document are high resolution 200 to 300 dpi at the same size the art will print at.

Adobe Photoshop - CS3 or earlier
- Save as a .TIF or .PSD file, 300 dpi at actual size (stuff file or electronic transfer if too large)
- Type that is set in Photoshop doesn’t print well unless the art is created at actual size & the resolution is 300 dpi or higher, so please include all fonts so we can set the type in a vector program.
- Photoshop files often require more art time to translate into screen printable art.
- JPG, PDF, & GIF’s are all file formats that are used as Reference only - not for screen printing reproduction due to their quality. An art charges may be required depending on how involved these files are to redraw.
- Files should be submitted in layers. DO NOT FLATTEN THE LAYERS.
- Make the background it’s OWN layer.
- For 4-color process jobs, convert all RGB colors and files to CMYK for process production. Make sure that artwork is high resolution.

* With ANY electronic art all type fonts need to be converted to outlines OR included (include both screen and printer font if it’s a postscript font).

Hardcopy - We accept clean, crisp black & white artwork for single color designs. It may be hand drawn or computer generated, but it should be actual size and camera-ready. Black & White laser prints or pen & ink designs are best. Halftones on art printouts will not scan.

Color Matching - We offer a wide range of stock ink colors to choose from. We will mix custom colors or match Pantone PMS colors for $15 each.

Halftones - Normal halftones should be printed at 45dpi - 55dpi depending on size and detail.
